short story  |  07.23
Vanity unzips her clothes and turns on the shower. Steam blooms and dews the walls. Five round puncture scars colour her left thigh. Souvenirs from trying to leave Cherry at 16.
Every resident tries only once.
This eerie short story centers on a seemingly perfect city where vibrant colours and mirrors cover every surface, and its residents never grow sick or old. But their eternal beauty comes at a cost. Residents must always stare at their reflections and each other, even while they sleep. Nobody can ever be unseen; they will fall prey to the shadows lurking behind them. As a mysterious group begins to blind residents, the protagonist finds herself alone in a city waiting to eat her alive. Rebecca's VANITY brings horror and terror into a city of perfection, drawing readers into a world of madness seen through a reflection that can shatter in a second.
